What Kiwis Think:
Politicians and the “C-word” - Compromise
2 in 3 Kiwis Think:
…our politicians don’t care about people like them
Kiwis feel strongly that our political system is not working as it should.
2 in 3 Kiwis Think our politicians don’t care about people like them.
And only 39% of Kiwis Think the system works for the majority of people.
Many Kiwis are worried the country is becoming more polarised (61%) and that our best years are behind us as a country (67%).
But we still have faith our system can be improved (68%), and we think it's our politicians who should fix it.
65% of Kiwis think politicians would do a better job than successful business leaders would.
And we’re pretty split on weather experts (50%) or Kiwis ourselves (56%) could do any better.
And Kiwis are pretty clear how we expect our politicians to do that:
We want our politicians to listen to us more (84%)
and argue with each other less (64%).
Kiwis want our politicians to be focused on balancing different perspectives (74%)
that it is better for big political decisions in NZ to be the result of discussion, negotiation and compromise (60%)
and that we need our politicians to do that so we can make progress as a country (69%)
